Can I get a green card from my job?

If you are a non-citizen living outside of the United States and you have been offered a permanent job in the United States…

then you may be able to enter the United States on an employment-based green card

If you have been offered permanent employment in the United States based on your extraordinary abilities, education, credentials, or achievements in the sciences, arts, education, business, athletics, or certain other industries, then you may be able to get an employment-based immigrant visa. In most cases, you must already have a job offer from an employer and they must be willing to file a petition on your behalf for your entry into the United States. After the petition has been approved and an immigrant visa number becomes available, you will then be able to apply for an immigrant visa at the US embassy or consulate in your country. If all goes well with the immigrant visa application and interview, you will be given an immigrant visa. Upon entering the United States using your immigrant visa, you will become a permanent resident and get your green card.

If you are a non-citizen lawfully living in the United States and you have been offered a permanent job in the United States…

then you may be able to use the adjustment of status process to obtain an employment-based green card

This process begins with having a US employer file an immigrant visa petition on your behalf. When a visa number becomes available, if you qualify then you may be able to file an adjustment of status application while you remain in the United States. The adjustment of status process will allow you to become a permanent resident and get your green card without having to leave the United States to do any consular processing overseas.
